My blog writing challenge day 3 topic is my business name. I don’t really have a business name, so I’ll just focus on my blog name instead.
The Shady Lane. I don’t know that the story is particularly interesting, but I would imagine it started maybe 10 years ago. I needed a new username for an online game, it was late at night and I wasn’t feeling very inspired I guess, because I used the name of the song I was listening to, one of my favorites at the time: Shady Lane by Pavement.
The name stuck after that, becoming the basis for most of my online handles and email addresses. When I decided to start this blog I came up with a number of names. I wasn’t really happy with any one of them, so I posted on facebook about my frustration. A friend (and fellow blogger at School Yard Style) suggested I just stick with what I was familiar with.
So I thought on it a while. The Shady Lane felt like the perfect fit for the ideas I had. I wanted the name to embody my journey as we learned to slow down and appreciate life more, rather than rushing through every moment. Soon after I came up with the image you see up top and knew that it was the perfect fit!
And as it turns out I’m really enjoying the challenge so far. Today is wet, rainy, icy and just plain gross out. I’ve been in sweats all day, watching the kids play Minecraft and trying to recover from over eating at Dinosaur BBQ yesterday. If it weren’t for the writing challenge I most likely would not have even cracked open my laptop today, and I’m really happy that I did.
