Thanks for stopping by for another Thankful Thursday post! Things I am thankful for this week:
Despite being insanely busy this week I was able to volunteer at J’s school during the Scholastic Book Fair. I love helping with the book fair, there is something about kids getting being so excited as they pick out books all on their own that is really rewarding.
The book fair is a great time to discover new books, and J picked out a few this time around. We’ve been enjoying them together, reading a few chapters each evening. Our favorite so far has been Junie B., First Grader – Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten (and Other Thankful Stuff).
On the way home from school today I asked the kids what they wanted to do tonight and they asked to have a picnic. It was too windy to eat outside, so we agreed to picnic on the dining room floor. I made the kids our favorite grilled cheese sandwiches with apple slices and while eating the kids asked if I would read to them from the Junie B. book. As we sat on the dining room floor with the comforting smell of grilled cheese and butternut squash soup in the air snd the sound of their laughter (it seems Junie B. is a particularly funny character) I had the chance to really enjoy a peaceful moment. Work had piled up while I was at the school, chores needed to be done – I had every reason to be rushing, but for that moment I didn’t care, and it was wonderful.
J suggested next time I put apples inside the grilled cheese, which I tried later on and it was amazing! You know what else I’m thankful for? Remembering that sometimes it’s ok to eat on the kitchen floor and call it a “picnic”.
Monkey also got a new book – He’s a big Pete the Cat fan!
I’m thankful for how these boys remind me to be silly every once in a while. Between work, the kids, the house, the PTA… my head can be very cluttered, I’m always thinking of the next thing I have to get done. Every now and then they remind me that taking a break to laugh is just as important as my next deadline. If I’m not enjoying myself, what am I working so hard for anyway?
Oh, and I have one more thing to be thankful for this week… I was running around the other day, attempting to knock out a bunch of errands so that I can focus on Thanksgiving plans and worrying about upcoming deadlines when we hit standstill traffic. We decided to pull off to a Baskin Robbins for lunch (don’t judge me, I got a waffle cone so it’s basically like breakfast). As we got back into the car a message popped up on the dashboard: Low Fuel, 4 miles to empty. Being as we were five miles from home and I had zero money on me to fill up with, there was some concern. So here’s to being thankful for arriving home just on time:
What are you most thankful for this week?
