When my older son recently became interested in stamping I had to cringe a little inside as I watched his three year old brother enthusiastically join him – and in thr process cover my table, chairs, floor and even himself in stamp ink. We buy washable ink but for some reason it’s just really, really hard to get off of skin. So when I saw the Crayola Color Wonder Light Up Stamper at TTPM’s Holiday Showcase I literally called my mom out of excitement (my mom has been on the cleaning end of The Bean’s escapades often enough to understand my struggle!). So when a box arrives from Crayola not long after I was thrilled to find the Crayola Color Wonder Light Up Stamper inside.
Like all Color Wonder products, this stamp kit features “ink” that will only show up on special paper. Inside the box you get the stamp unit, which includes the light up stamper and an area to hold all accessories, 12 pages of Color Wonder paper, three ink pads (orange, green and purple), 10 ocean themed stamp plates and three mini markers. Set up is easy, as all you have to do is install three AA batteries (you can use the stamper without batteries and it works just fine, but the stamper won’t light up) and you’re ready to create.
To create children simply choose their stamp and color. The stamper lights up to match the color of the ink as it’s placed over the ink well, which is a really nice and fun feature. Then they stamp like normal on the Color Wonder paper and watch as their designs appear. They can use the enclosed markers to color in their stamps too!
The idea of having to buy specialty paper and ink isn’t always great, but in this case it really pays off. Refills are readily available from Crayola and reasonably priced. It is well worth the price for us to have some mess free art time. The Bean loves this set and uses it often, and I get a little bit of a break because I can enjoy his creations rather than spending my time chasing him around with a wipe and scrubbing ink stains off of my chairs.
The entire set cleans up and stores away easily, which is another plus. Everything is well contained and fits easily into a drawer on our art desk. The Light Up Stamper is another hit in our home, and an exciting change from just paper and crayons!
