Last year we reviewed the Zing Air Storm Fire Tek bow and had plenty of fun with it’s light up arrows and crazy shooting distance. This year we’re checking out the Fire Tek Zeon Bow, which is pretty much a smaller, more manageable version of the Air Storm bow. The Zeon Bow is for ages 5+ and with it’s smaller size and lighter resistance it is definitely easier for younger kids to use than it’s predecessor.
The Fire Tek Zeon bow is sturdy and well made, as we’ve come to expect from Zing. The arrows light up, making this a lot of fun to pull out at night. The arrows can shoot up to 35 feet, a distance I was easily able to achieve, although my five year old is definitely going to need some practice before getting quite that far. The arrows have suction cups on the end that will stick to flat surfaces (mostly glass, we didn’t have much success on painted walls, but we did get it to stick to closet and bedroom doors).
The bow itself is easy to hold. Arrows load by being hooked on to two bungee cords. Although this takes a few tried to get the hang of it is a really nice system that prevents anything from being snapped back on a child. You fire by holding the bow in one hand and drawing back the arrow with the other. Overall it is a very simple set up that kids will figure out quickly and since everything comes pre assembled (our favorite!) you can begin playing right out of the box.
Some things we really loved: The arrows have an easy to access on/off switch near the front, allowing us to save batteries during the day time. The arrows have replaceable batteries so there’s no worry about having to buy new arrows when these die, just open them up and pop some new batteries in. You also have the option to clip the arrows into the bow (we found it hard to get them in and out but I’m sure that will loosen up over time), so everything stores away neatly and there are no lost arrows.
What you get in the box: One bow and three arrows (batteries included). For the price (under $15) this is a great bow for younger kids and a nice addition to the Zing product line. My five year old loves being able to play along side his brother now and we were really impressed with how well this bow worked for him.
