It feels like, although school is barely out, our minds are already on the coming year. It will be a big year for us here. September will mark the very first time all of my children are officially “school aged” – at least until the baby is born in December. For three months every child in the house will be in school for part of the day. I feel like there’s so much to prepare as the days of summer vacation slip by, lost in the cool waters of the pool or the warm grass underfoot. We sort of love food, so we view the summer in seasons – strawberry season, peach season, tomato season… when the first early apples are ready for picking we know it’s time to start gearing up for school again. There’s usually a frantic rush to complete supply lists, stock the pantry with healthy snacks and squeeze in as many afternoon bike rides as possible. I’m trying to get a head start this year. With the baby due in December I know I’ll also be juggling doctor’s appointments and sheer exhaustion by the time school starts, so planning ahead sounds like a good idea. Will it actually happen? Who knows… it’s hard to stay focused on school when mountain trails and trips to the zoo are calling us, but I’m remaining optimistic for now. For example, I’ve already created my 2016 First Day of School Printables! I went with a little bit of a celebratory theme this year. Seeing my bean off to preschool seems like a big achievement since he is still very much “the baby” of the household. I’ll use these along with my Back To School Gift Buckets to celebrate their successful first day!
