The Future Architect’s Tool Kit Review – a kit designed to introduce children to the world of architecture and design in a fun and imaginative way. The kit is neatly packed into a carrying case, making this a great gift option for the creative child in your life.
If you’re looking for a different kind of gift to inspire your children this year you won’t want to miss out on this new book and kit by architect Barbara Beck! The Architect’s Tool Kit includes a hardcover workbook, graph paper, architect’s scale, pencil and a drafting eraser – everything a young architect would need to begin designing their own homes. Readers will meet a young architect named Aaron, and follow along as he designs his own home. Children will learn what it is an architect must do to design a home like creating site plans, floor plans and elevation.
The book continues with the design process and then even walks children through building a model of their design out of cardboard and paper. My favorite part is the end of the book, where the pages are filled with imaginary clients. Budding architects can challenge themselves to design perfect homes for these whimsical clients including a kindly giant who thinks he’s a hobbit, a wheelchair bound dog who loves to play soccer, an eccentric millionaire who wants to live inside an amusement park and a host of other silly characters that will encourage children to put their imaginations to work as they design homes that will meet the specific needs of each client. Written by Barbara Beck, an architect herself, this book hits a perfect balance – giving the reader a real life, informative lesson on the aspects of design and architecture while still finding a way to capture a child’s imagination and inspire them to unleash their own creativity.
My nine year old has never expressed an interest in architecture itself, but loves to draw and is a huge Minecraft fan. When I gave him this book I told him it would teach him how to draw real-life homes, much like he enjoys building structures in the video game. He was hooked almost immediately, churning out pages of fantastically creative homes and intricate floor plans. Before we knew it he has redesigned his bedroom, complete with a detailed floor plan, and was moving on to a site plan for a backyard clubhouse.
The Future Architect’s Tool Kit is a very different kind of gift – perfect for budding artists, engineers and children who love to build, tinker and imagine. To find out more about The Future Architect’s Tool Kit or author Barbara Beck, visit Schiffer Publishing!
