When I was approached with an opportunity to review a Jord Wood Watch I was a little on the fence. After all, I’m not personally big on jewelry. I only own one watch – a gift from my husband about five years ago – and it’s the only piece of jewelery I own besides my wedding band. There’s a few reasons for my lack of accessories. I’m always outdoors, spending much of my free time in my own garden, visiting local farms or hiking, so it just seems impractical to wear a lot of jewelry. I also tend to wear a lot of neutral colors or earth tones that I don’t care to match with gold or silver accessories.
I was really intrigued by Jord Wood Watches however, and decided to see what these wood watches were all about. Just the fact that each watch is made of different types of sustainably sourced wood caught my attention, as the natural wood grain and rich colors are very unique and eye catching. I chose a style from the Fieldcrest series – Zebrawood & Maple because I absolutely loved the interesting wood grain pattern.
Upon opening the box my first thought was that the watch looked even more impressive in person. The grain detail is lovely and natural. The watch comes packaged very nicely in a wooden box giving it an elegant feel, and weighs much less than a traditional watch made of metal or plastic. The band is made of zebrawood, which has a very exotic grain pattern, and the face is made of a lighter maple wood. The watch does have a stainless steel clasp that makes its easy to get on and the back, with its carefully engraved Jord logo, is easily removable for battery replacement.
Wearing the watch has been a treat. The wood design makes it so light and comfortable on my wrist. The natural look makes it perfect for every day wear, yet stylish enough to wear on an evening out with friends. When out and about I am constantly approached by people who compliment the watch, wanting to know if it really is made of wood and admiring the look and feel of it.
Is it durable?
Being a really practical person, I needed a watch that could withstand every day life. This Jord Wood Watch claims to be splash-proof and boasts a scratch-resistant mineral glass face, two things that are pretty easy to put to the test as a busy mom of three small boys. So far I am genuinely impressed. I wore the watch every day for two weeks and it has survived a very heavy, unexpected rain storm that found me running across a gigantic parking lot with three small children and no umbrella, a few bath time splashes, numerous games of catch and football and even a short stint in my purse that resulted in not even a single scratch, causing me to be much more impressed by the watch than I am by my rather pricey phone case at this point. Over the couple of weeks I have been wearing it the Jord Wood Watch has kept perfect time.
Overall, I have really been loving this unique watch. Not only does it draw attention and compliments everywhere we go, it’s also so comfortable on my wrist that I can wear it out on a day hike but so lovely that it can also be worn out for dinner and drinks. The watch has proved its durability more than once, as I was certain its time at the bottom of my purse or our little stint in the pouring rain would have caused some damage, but both times the watch survived unscathed. The very natural wood look is both laid back and elegant, something I never though I would find in a watch! I find myself wearing the watch more often than I thought I would, simply because it’s so comfortable and attracts so many compliments.
Jord has a great selection of styles and wood types as well, which definititely makes you want to own more than one of these watches! Check out their women’s collection online to see the beautiful styles available. The Fieldcrest watch runs about $139, and other styles can cost as much as $300, which is expected for a quality timepiece. Caring for the wood doesn’t seem like it will be much trouble, Jord suggests lemon or orange oil extract for cleaning the wood occasionally.
