The temperatures here in New York have been plummeting, so when we climbed out of the car and walked into Color Me Mine where Plum Organics was hosting a night of pottery painting, the delicious smell of warm soup was welcoming.
We found some seats and began painting our very own (giant!) soup bowls while we learned about Plum Organics new line of kid friendly soups. Then we hit the buffet to try them for ourselves! There are three soups:
Chicken Noodle: White meat chicken, carrots, sweet potatoes and sweet, crunchy corn pack this soup with tons of Vitamin A and 7 grams of protein to keep little bellies full all day long.
Chicken Fiesta: With white meat chicken, tomatoes, corn and black beans this soup is a great source of fiber and 7 grams of protein!
Tomato Meatball: with turkey meatballs. tomatoes, spinach and whole wheat orzo pasta this soup packs 12 grams of whole grains and 8 grams of protein and 1/2 cup of vegetables into every bowl!
Each soup comes in a single serve BPA-free pouch which you simply pour, heat and serve. The soups are made from organic ingredients with no antibiotics or added hormones.
Here’s our take on the soup:
Jayson’s favorite is the chicken noodle. He loves the chunks of chicken and the crunchy corn and went quickly back for seconds! My favorite is the tomato meatball soup, I love turkey meatballs and the spinach. The soups are not salty tasting like other ready to eat soups (each variety contains 480mg of sodium) and they taste so fresh it would be impossible to know they came from a pouch.
As a mom what I really like about the Plum Organics Soup line is:
- Convenience. The pouches are easy to store on the pantry, when we’re ready for soup I just tear one open and heat it on the stove.
- The soup is microwavable, making it perfect for visiting relatives with my picky eaters. All I need to pack is a pouch of Plum organic soup and a microwavable bowl (and a relative with a microwave of course!).
- I feel good about using it. When we’re snowed in and craving soup, sandwiches and a Land Before Time movie marathon I can feel good knowing I’m giving the boys a soup full of veggies, whole grains and organic meat.
- Single serving! That means when Jayson wants Tomato Turkey and Aiden wants “one without anything green in it”, I can open a pouch of Tomato Turkey and one of Chicken Noodle without worrying about storing or wasting any leftover.
If you’re a regular reader here you’ll know I love to make everything I can from scratch, but with three kids that sometimes means we don’t always get to eat what we want because it takes too long to make during a busy week. I love having a store-bought backup option that I can still feel good about using.
My biggest gripe about packaged soups is sodium, something that we’re probably all aware of by now: packaged soup is loaded with it! The CDC recommends that everyone ages 2 and up should consume less than 2,300 mg of sodium per day. Some of my favorite soups contain as much as 1,000 mg per serving! Plum Organic Soup contains only 480 mg per pouch, which is a much easier number to wrap my head around when I’m pouring a bowl for my kids – and for myself too.
Overall, I was so glad to have the opportunity to learn more about Plum Organic Soup, and to learn that Plum has designed a product my family will really use. Convenient, delicious soups that focus on being a healthy on-the-go option for kids and families!
Not to mention the great time Jayson and I had painting our own soup bowls! I am hardcore hinting to my husband that I’d love to do it again with the kids for Mother’s Day. We had so much fun coming up with designs (Jayson’s is an artistic take on a Minecraft Creeper peeking out of a window) and getting to show off our finished bowl at home!
