When it comes to STEM learning toys I found the jackpot at Toy Insiders Holiday of Play. Thames and Kosmos was the first tables I stopped by, drawn by the assortment of robotic building sets and board games. The Thames and Kosmos catalog is filled with hundreds of toys geared towards builders, budding scientists and children who’s minds are brimming with imagination. From beginning engineering kits like my first airplane, family games like ubongo, robotic space explorers sETA TO SOMETHING FOR TEENS the catalog is just a visual playground for anyone who loves science based toys.
Kids First Aircraft Engineer (ages 3+)
This set, targeted at preschoolers and beginning builders, uses a colorful and engaging story book to teach young children simple engineering concepts as they build their very own aircraft. Loaded with colorful and easy to use pieces, kids can build 10 different models in one kit! This is the perfect gift for any child ready to build with more than just blocks!
Ubongo (Ages 8+, 1-4 players)
So I love board games and so does my oldest son. Ubongo is a puzzle style board game where you must fit pieces onto a tile board in a set amount of time. What I love is that I can play with just my son, or with the rest of the family. I can even play by myself if I want to pass the time, or maybe brush up my skills before our next group game! You can also download the companion app which includes game timers, solutions and how to’s. I love puzzle games because they allow us to have fun while the kids learn about strategy and this game would be at the top of my list for any board game enthusiasts!
Remote Control Machines: Space Explorers (ages 8+)
This 237 piece set allows children to build ten different models of space explorers, each one with unique abilities. The kit includes three motors which can be used to power and control different parts of the models. Our favorite is the Mars Rover, which can be driven forward and backward and has a remote control arm, is often used outside to explore our backyard terrain and investigate small objects. This gift packs a huge amount of wow factor, combining two fascinating science topics: robots and space!
CHEM c2000 (ages 11+)
There’s even something for budding scientists! The CHEM C2000 allows future scientists to conduct over 250 experiments and covers the most important topics in Chemistry, providing a strong foundation for future learning. More experienced children can use the CHEM C3000 for a more advanced experience, and younger kids can start out with the CHEM C1000, aimed at true beginners.
Of course, this barely scratches the surface so if you’re searching for STEM related gifts and amazing board games make sure to check out the entire Thames & Kosmos catalog!
